Astronomical hotlines of 1996-2000

Comets, meteor showers, planet conjunctions

  • 1996 Comet Hyakutake

  • 1997 Comet Hale-Bopp

  • 1998 Leonid fireballs

  • 1999 Leonid storm

  • 2000 In May an event which probability is 10 to the minus 5th has happened! All bright planets - Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mercury - plus the Sun met in one constellation! Yet more, the Moon passed near this whole company on 4-5th of May! Unfortunately, there was nothing spectacular in it - no one planet was seen during about a week (Mercury was even hidden behind the solar disc for some hours on the 9th), moreover, because of that we were not able to observe quite a rare (once in 20 years) conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn - both of them were lost in the sunlight. But this is inevitable consequence of such an unique parade of planets. Besides, you will get a triple (or even more) compensation in four years to follow!
