IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (124) Alkeste / TYC 1304-00456 event on 2001 Nov 13, 18:48 UT Visible from Russia Summary ------- On the evening of 2001 Nov 13 UT, the 76 km diameter asteroid (124) Alkeste will occult a 9.3 mag star in the constellation Taurus for observers along a path across Russia. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 3.2 mag to 12.4 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 8.0 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Ron Stone, TMO astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, historical astrometry from AstDys, and the following catalogs for the star position: Tycho-2.
