Astrophysics of Axions and Cosmic Strings
High-energy and gravitational-wave astrophysical observations are potentially capable of finding hypothetical (but well-motivated in quantum field theory) objects -- axions and cosmic strings. I describe new predictions for how light bosons (in particular axions) spin down black holes and how cosmic strings form relativistic fireballs. The emphasis is on the observational signatures of these phenomena.
