Telescope's tube

Telescope's tube consists of:
  • frame
  • main mirror cell
  • focusing box
The tube's frame serves as a support structure and consists of three parts connected to each other with steel trusses. Those parts are: top ring, middle section, bottom ring and pipe trusses. Frame is built according to Serrurier system.

Trusses and middle section form triangles whose corners are fixed at the top and bottom rings. They provide rigidity to structure and are designed so that inevitable hangings of tube ends be always equal. Each pair of opposite triangles together with middle section and supporting ring form a parallelogram. If bendings of tube appear, rings are shifted in parallel to themselves and each other, hense mutual slant of main mirror and secondary mirror being excluded.

The focusing box is mounted to the top ring using spiders. The main mirror cell is attached to the bottom ring.

At the upper side of bottom ring there are doors for protecting the main mirror during the breaks in telescope operation. Doors have electromechanical drives with cranks which exclude the possibility of their damage in case of terminal switches failure. Doors control is performed from the telescope control station.

Horizon switch is located inside the bottom ring which stops the motion of the telescope downward the horizon when axis of tube reaches zenithal angle of about 80o.

Two plug connectors are located at the bottom ring for connecting the Cassegrain key and two plug connectors for focusing box control button. Besides the connector for plugging Cassegrain focal devices is also located there.
